This year, each of you will maintain a digital portfolio of your work. This is a place for you to collect pieces of writing you are proud of, analysis of texts that you read and your reflections about the year. They will be public- I strongly suggest you only use your first name, or have a nickname that you use for our work. You will share this page with your classmates, myself, other TYWLS students and people outside of TYWLS.
You will start by creating and designing your page. What will potentially go on here:
The RUBRIC is at the bottom of the page!
Task 1: Create a portfolio. Last year we used tumblr- but this year I will open it up if you have a different platform you would like to use. Know how to create a weebly? Go for it...have something else you like to use that's easy in this way? Go for it! Tumblr is the easiest for quickly uploading different types of media, that's why I chose it. Here's a handy "how to" website to help you out: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/21896/create-a-beautiful-easy-to-update-blog-with-tumblr/
*If you are already have a tumblr, I suggest you create a new blog just for this work. You can link your tumblrs, but it might be a good idea to keep the school on separate. This is your choice, but may keep things organized nicely.
* Warning and reminder: This is for a school audience and should have an overall ELA focus
Task 2: Your first post: In order to introduce yourself, write just a few lines about who you are as a reader and writer. See these tumblrs for examples.

YOU DO NOT have to put a photo if you don't feel comfortable. As for the text, be honest- if you only read magazines or online, share that!
Task 3: Put your 6 word memoir on your portfolio- not just a link, the actual image.
Task 4: Put a link to your goodreads so I can easily access it. You can link the page with your updates by clicking on your picture. It will show your profile with recent updates: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/350986-christy-kingham
Task 5: Write a few lines reflecting about how it's going so far in ELA for you
Task 6: Share a link to your work with me by emailing it to [email protected]!
EVIDENCE: These 6 tasks are due by Monday, September 28th. At this Point you will be assessed! Below is the rubric...
Task 7: Please take a moment to reflect about your independent reading work. Some questions to consider: How many books did you read? Did you read a text you loved? Should this be a required text? How do you believe independent reading should be a part of high school English classes?
Task 8: Now that you have finished The Bluest Eye, please take a moment to reflect and link a piece of evidence to your reflection:
You will start by creating and designing your page. What will potentially go on here:

- Book reviews and links to goodreads.com

Task 8: Now that you have finished The Bluest Eye, please take a moment to reflect and link a piece of evidence to your reflection:
- How did this whole class novel study go for you? What are your take aways?
- What outcome targets do you know you need to work on moving forward? How do you know this?
- Please link a piece of work that helps to demonstrate what outcome targets you are finding success with and/or those that you know you need to work on. (consider taking a picture of your feedback!)
- What are you thinking about this text in the context of our big question about what students should be reading in high school English classes? In other words, should this text be on the suggested list? Should it be required?
- What do the lists of classic books have in common?
- What was your experience reading these classics? Do you feel they should be read by all high schoolers?
- What does your text say about what we value in America?
- What makes a “great work of literature” “great”? Was your text "Great" in your mind?
- What books should all high school students read before graduating?
- Should all high school students even have required reading?
- What is your take away from our work? What did you learn about Macbeth? Shakespeare? Subtext?
- What are your take aways after finishing our narrative non-fiction unit?
- This I Believe?
- The college essay?
- Please include a small piece evidence of your writing- a favorite metaphor, description, or a few lines of so what and label it for us.
- What are your parting thoughts about our year together? What worked for you? What didn't work for you?
- What are some ELA goals you have for next year? Hopes and dreams?
