    • Contemporary Fiction Project

You have two weeks to read one of the contemporary fiction texts on my shelves by the door. Your Goodreads Post assignments are below!

This will be a part of our discussion about texts you believe high schoolers should read (or not).  They are all texts that are popular amongst adults and teachers alike. The reason I’m doing this is so you have yet another text to talk about-this time in the popular/contemporary fiction category. Tons of people read these texts, why? Should they?  You will be expected to refer to your text in an upcoming argument essay about your beliefs regarding high school curriculum.  This is casual in the sense that you only have two goodreads posts to complete and classmates to respond to, but you still need to READ the text!  Can’t wait to hear what you think!

1. Find the "Group" for your book on my page and join it! (see below for a screen shot to help you!)

2. READ the book

3. By End of Class Friday:  Write a post on the discussion board for your group- choose a golden line from what you've read so far and explain why this line is memorable or worth sharing.  Does it reveal character? Theme? Is it beautiful writing or an example of why you're not liking the text? (should be at least 20 pages in).  RESPOND to at least one book club member!

4. READ the book and finish it by the end of spring break.

5. Go on the discussion board whenever you'd like, but you have to
do the following
by WEDNESDAY APRIL 23rd:  Write a thick discussion question for your group mates and respond to each other. This will get you ready for class, just like Greg's talking points! You will have an in person chat when we return.  Enjoy!
